Morrie compared with Canva, spreadsheets and TeamApp

Updated

The short answer

Morrie is built for one job, running a community cricket club's posts, sponsors and season admin from the play.cricket.com.au and PlayHQ data the club already has, while Canva, spreadsheets and team apps are general tools a club fills in by hand. If your club posts rarely, has few sponsors and a volunteer who enjoys design, a general tool may be all you need; Morrie suits clubs that want every grade's cards, sponsor reports and committee admin done from their own fixtures and scorecards.

By hand, a template is filled in for every grade; Morrie draws the card from the scorecard. Sample card with invented scores.

How to read this comparison

This page describes what Morrie does and when another tool is a fine choice. It doesn't describe other products' features or prices, which change and are theirs to state; check each product's own website for those.

Morrie and Canva (or another design tool)

Canva is a general-purpose design tool: you can design anything, and you fill in every name, score and logo yourself. Many clubs make a results template and retype the scores each week.

Morrie makes cricket cards from the club's own data: fixtures, named XIs, scorecards, milestones and ladders from play.cricket.com.au and PlayHQ, in the club's colours with sponsors on them, and posts them on a schedule. You don't retype a score.

A club that already has a results or milestone design it likes in Canva doesn't have to give it up: upload it to Morrie's Club templates (Posts → Club templates), draw boxes on it for the headline, photo, names, score and sponsor (or name those layers in an SVG export and Morrie places them), and every card of that kind is filled in from the club's data on the club's own design.

A design tool is the better choice for one-off things Morrie doesn't make, such as a flyer for a quiz night or a poster for the clubrooms. Morrie's brand asset pack gives you the club's logo file, colour codes and font name to use there.

Morrie and spreadsheets

A spreadsheet is flexible and free, and plenty of clubs run sponsors, members and volunteers from one. It works until it lives on one person's laptop, nobody knows which copy is current, and nothing reminds anyone that a renewal is due.

Morrie keeps contacts, sponsors, renewals, volunteers and the committee in one place the whole committee can open, with reminders before things fall due. It imports from spreadsheets (CSV or Excel, and Google Sheets links for contacts), and exports tables such as the member map to CSV, so a spreadsheet can stay part of how you work.

A spreadsheet is fine for a small club with one organised person and few sponsors, or for a one-off list.

Morrie and TeamApp (or another club app)

Club and team apps are built around communication with members and teams. Morrie isn't a team chat app. It's built around the club's cricket data and the committee's jobs: match-day cards and posting, sponsors from prospect to exposure report, memberships, volunteers and season admin.

If your club is moving its members across, Morrie recognises a TeamApp export by its column names when you import contacts, and shows how each column was matched before anything is saved. Some clubs keep their team app for messages and use Morrie for posts, sponsors and admin.

What Morrie costs

Starter ($399/season) is the cards product: every card kind, posting to Facebook and Instagram, Mailchimp drafts, fixtures and scorecards, squad, sponsors on every card and the photo drop. Growth ($798/season) is everything in Starter plus running the club (people, volunteers, renewals, season awards and player votes, committee and documents) and AI Copilot. All-Rounder ($2,433/season) is Growth with every add-on included, the club website and Website Pro among them. On monthly billing the Starter base is charged every month, 12 charges a season (the off-season too, unless the club pauses for it), and the rest of the plan and any add-ons are charged once a season, as on season billing. Starter is $69/month, $828 over a season ($399 paid per season); Growth is $69/month + $399/season, $1,227 over a season ($798 paid per season); All-Rounder is $69/month + $2,034/season, $2,862 over a season ($2,433 paid per season). Paying per season is always cheaper: even 6 months of monthly costs more than the season price, so stopping for the off-season doesn't save anything. AI Copilot is $199/season on top of Starter. Sponsor Prospecting, Video, Coach & Scouting and Club website can go on any plan; Membership + Player Sponsorship and Governance & Compliance Pack need Growth or above. Club website Pro ($299/season) goes on top of the Club website add-on and comes with All-Rounder at no extra cost: your own style on top of your colours: heading and button styles, card corners and shadows, spacing, the header and links; campaign pages for a registration drive, a sponsorship prospectus, finals and presentation night; pages and news only your members can see; sponsor premium: a page for each sponsor, sponsor of the match on the site, and a report of clicks and views for each sponsor; sponsor offers for members: a members-only offers page, with how many members used each offer reported to the sponsor; members can install the site as an app on their phone and get notifications; paid tickets and RSVPs for your events; a past players register: past players sign up on your site, see where their old teammates are now by decade, and get your reunion invitations; no "Website by Morrie" in your site's footer; website visitors, pages and sponsor clicks reported in the club app; a My season page for every player at season's end, with their stats, best moments and a picture for Instagram, and an email with their link. Using Morrie from an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT comes with every plan (Starter, Growth and All-Rounder), with no add-on.

Prices are per club, per season, in Australian dollars, and every price is on morrie.io/pricing.

Choosing what's right for your club

  1. Count how many posts the club makes in a round, across every grade, and how long they take.
  2. Count your sponsors, and whether each gets a report at the end of the season.
  3. Note who holds the club's lists of members, sponsors and volunteers, and what happens if they step down.
  4. If those are small, a general tool may do. If they take hours each week, see Morrie's sample cards in your own club's colours at morrie.io/preview.

Common questions

Can we keep using Canva with Morrie?

Yes. Morrie makes the match-day cards from your data, and you can keep using a design tool for one-off flyers and posters, with the club's logo, colours and font from Morrie's brand asset pack. A card design you made in Canva can also become a Club template, which Morrie fills in for every card of that kind.

Can we import our members from a spreadsheet or TeamApp?

Yes. People → Contacts → Import takes a CSV or Excel file and recognises TeamApp, TidyHQ and Mailchimp exports by their column names, showing how each column was matched before anything is saved.

Can we try Morrie before deciding?

Not as a demo club for now, while clubs come on a few at a time. morrie.io/preview shows sample cards in your club's colours in about ten seconds, with nothing posted, or book a 15-minute demo at morrie.io/book-a-demo.
